Here is how to make a quick PDF presentation in Photoshop.

1: Open all the images that you want in Photoshop.

2: Then go to File > Automate > PDF Presentation. The following dialogue box will appear. Click on Add Open Files.

3: The names of all the images you have open will appear and you can arrange them in whatever order you wish.

4: You can then either Save As a simple Multi-page Document or as Presentation – which gives you control over different transitions and the number of seconds in-between.
Click save and that’s it – it couldn’t be simpler!

Making the web green

I am all for doing my bit for the planet and always try and look for new ways in which I can help. Recently I found this really cool tool called The Black Pixel Project – created by Green Peace. Basically it’s a small application which you install onto your computer, once installed it opens up a small black pixel, which stays on top of your windows. It can be moved around the screen and when you hover your mouse over it it tells you info on the amount of power you currently save thanks to the black pixel itself. So at the time of writing this the black sqaure has managed to save 105632 watts, which is the same as 880 computers turned off in an hour. How cool is that!

Adding other email addresses in Google mail

I was recently asked about setting up another email address in Google mail, so that you can also reply from that same address. So I decided to do a quick tutorial about it. I hope it helps.

1: Log into Google mail, if you don’t already have an account then you will need to create one.

2: Click on Settings (which should be on the top right hand side), then go the Accounts tab.

3: Click Add another email address where the following pop up box will show.

Type in the email address you wish to add and click Next step. It will ask you for verification (in other words whether you own the email address) so Send Verification.

4: When you get the verification (which will be sent to the email address you added), they will send you a link or a code which you will have to add to verify. I usually click on the link to make it easier.

And that’s it you are done. So if you have a web site with an email link such as info@yourdomain.com, you can have all emails from this account delivered to your Google account. Just make sure it is set up first via your website host provider.

You can set up as many as you want and when you reply you can select which email address to reply from. See example below.

If you have other email accounts such as with Yahoo, Hotmail etc, you can also add those and have all emails from those account delivered to your Google account, but you will the POP3 details and also some providers charge.

Blogger Vs WordPress

After using Blogger for over a year I decided to switch to WordPress, which is what you are reading form now and why there are only a few posts so far as I decided to start from scratch. Why you may ask did I switch?, well there were a few reasons, don’t worry I won’t go into all of them, but suffice to say apart from the excellent themes you can get, there is much more web integration, such as SEO, tags, plus you can get stats for your blog along with more control and freedom the list can go on and on. My biggest disappointment with Blogger was the fact that it belongs to Google you would think it would be easier to use and more streamlined, but oh well. Anyway welcome to my new blog!

How to save an e-book onto your ipod – tutorial

Step 1 E-book should be saved as a text file – if it is a PDF then save as text file by going to File > Save As text and save it in your area.

Step 2 Go to the following website http://ebookhood.com/ and click on Choose file (make sure the Convert File radio button is selected) select your text file (e-book) from where you saved it and then click convert document.

Step 3 After a few minutes if you scroll to the bottom of the same website a link will apear called - Download as iPod Notes file. Which will then open as a Zipped File which you will then have to extract.

Step 4 Click Extract all files and it will take you to Extraction Wizard – to make things easier for me I extract the files straight onto my ipod into the Notes Section. (Just make sure your ipod is connected to your computer first) Click finish.

To check if it has saved you can disconnect your ipod got to the Notes Section and there will be a series of small files saved there which will be your e-book. Since the Notes section can only read 4kb of a file at a time – that is why you have to save your e-book this way to create multiple 4kb files – which make up the entire E-book.

E-books Vs Paper books

As an avid reader of books (mostly the paper variety) I have to say that up until now I have stayed away from e-books. Thinking them cold and impersonal, especially compared to paper books where each book has it’s own identity and character.

But being somewhat of a curious nature and someone who enjoys working, using and discovering new technologies I decided to take the plunge and have a go at reading an e-book. After searching the Internet for a reasonably short novel, I managed to download it onto my ipod. After the initial excitement of owning an e-book and a free one at that, I tried to sit and relax on the sofa with a good old book (as they say), although in this case it came in the form of a shiny slick ipod, where I had to scroll through the pages and then scroll backwards to go to the next page. After about half an hour my eyes started to hurt and I just got fed up waiting for the next page to load. Although part of that could be explained due to the small screen of the ipod.

I have to say for me it just didn’t work. I missed the feel of holding a paperback/hardback book where you can feel the pages and the texture of the covers. Granted you can carry around more books with you and you can also get hold of some pretty good old classic for free, but in truth who actually will have time to read so many books in one go? Plus there’s the fact that an e-reader has to be charged, what happens when you feel like reading in the middle of the night, but realise your battery is low? Isn’t it easier grabbing a paper book fold back the pages and just settle in to read, no need to worry about low battery or anything? Some may argue that it saves paper, but then an e-reader wastes energy when you have to charge all the time.

I guess in all fairness both have there pro’s and con’s and it depends on the individual. I wouldn’t say I totally dislike e-books/readers, but occasionally if I can’t get a hold a book which I don’t want to buy or can’t get down at my local library – then e-books would be the way to go.
